What Caseworth Is & Isn't

What Caseworth Is

  • โœ“An informational case intelligence platform
  • โœ“A tool to help you understand precedents, statutes, and legal concepts
  • โœ“An educational resource for learning about legal cases and research
  • โœ“AI-powered case intelligence for research and understanding

What Caseworth Is NOT

  • โœ—Legal advice or counsel
  • โœ—A substitute for consulting a licensed attorney
  • โœ—Establishment of an attorney-client relationship
  • โœ—Legal representation or advocacy

Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL) Compliance

The Controlling Distinction

Every U.S. jurisdiction recognizes a foundational line: legal information is general, factual, and educational โ€” it explains what the law says. Legal advice applies the law to a specific person's unique facts to render an opinion about what they should do. Only licensed attorneys may provide legal advice.

Caseworth is built around that distinction. Every output the platform produces is legal information โ€” not legal advice โ€” and that line is the architectural foundation of the product, not a disclaimer appended after the fact. Our complete national 50-state UPL framework is published as a public white paper.

The Four-Pillar Compliance Architecture

Every consumer output Caseworth produces is governed by four structural rules. These are not disclaimers โ€” they are the architectural pillars that determine what the platform says and how it says it.

Pillar 01 โ€” Always Deliver

Plain-Language Legal Education

We explain what the law says, how courts have interpreted relevant statutes, and what elements specific claims require. Framing is always factual: "In Florida, a negligence claim requires four elements" โ€” never "you have a strong negligence claim."

Pillar 02 โ€” Always Deliver

Market Benchmark, Not Valuation

The Lexstimate benchmark is framed exclusively as a market range drawn from comparable case outcomes: "Cases with similar characteristics have ranged from X to Y." The platform never states "your case is worth X" โ€” that would constitute a legal opinion.

Pillar 03 โ€” Always Deliver

Procedural Information, Not Direction

We describe how courts work and what procedures exist: "Courts require..." and "Florida Rules of Civil Procedure provide..." โ€” never "you should file by this date" or "you should take this step." The procedural roadmap is descriptive, not directive.

Pillar 04 โ€” Never Deliver

Legal Advice or Opinions

Caseworth never tells a user what they should do, whether their case is strong or weak, what outcome to expect, or what strategy to pursue. When a situation calls for legal advice, the platform routes to the Attorney Bridge โ€” connecting the consumer to a licensed attorney, not attempting to replace one.

Structural Disclaimers

Every Caseworth report and interactive output includes the following disclosure:

"This report provides educational legal information only and does not constitute legal advice, a legal opinion, or the establishment of an attorney-client relationship. Caseworth is not a law firm. All information is drawn from publicly available law and comparable case data. Consult a licensed attorney regarding your specific situation before taking any legal action."

Every Lexstimate benchmark additionally includes:

"Educational benchmark only ยท Not legal advice ยท Sourced from comparable case outcomes ยท Results do not constitute a guarantee or prediction."

Important Legal Disclaimers

No Attorney-Client Relationship

Your use of Caseworth does not create an attorney-client relationship. The information provided is for educational and informational purposes only. No attorney-client privilege applies to your communications through this platform unless you have a separate, existing attorney-client relationship with a licensed attorney.

Informational Purposes Only

All analysis, research, and information provided by Caseworth is for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as legal advice. Every legal situation is unique and requires individualized analysis by a qualified attorney licensed to practice in your jurisdiction.

Accuracy & Completeness

While Caseworth strives to provide accurate information, we do not warrant the completeness or accuracy of all content. Laws change frequently, and legal analysis depends on specific facts. You should verify all information independently and consult with a licensed attorney.

No Liability for Reliance

Caseworth and its creators are not responsible for any damages, losses, or consequences resulting from reliance on information provided through this platform. By using Caseworth, you assume all risk and responsibility for decisions made based on information obtained through the platform.

Information for Consumers

If you are using Caseworth as a consumer (not a licensed attorney), the following applies:

  1. Consult an Attorney: For any legal matter, you should consult with a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction. This is especially true for matters involving litigation, significant financial stakes, or complex legal questions.
  2. Understand Limitations: AI analysis, while sophisticated, has limitations. Caseworth's analysis is based on general patterns and may not account for unique circumstances of your specific situation.
  3. Verify Information: Always verify legal information independently through official sources (court records, statute databases, etc.) and with a qualified attorney.
  4. Make Informed Decisions: Use Caseworth to better understand the legal landscape, but make final decisions only after consulting with a licensed attorney.
  5. Statute of Limitations: Do not rely solely on Caseworth for time-sensitive legal matters (filing deadlines, statute of limitations, etc.). Consult an attorney immediately for time-sensitive issues.

Information for Licensed Attorneys

If you are a verified, licensed attorney, the following applies:

  • Verification Required: Professional-tier access requires verification of your active bar membership. We verify bar information through official state bar databases.
  • Professional Standards: You remain bound by your state's Rules of Professional Conduct. Caseworth is a case intelligence tool; your use must comply with ethics rules applicable to attorneys.
  • Privilege & Confidentiality: Do not include confidential client information in queries. Caseworth's systems may not maintain attorney-client privilege.
  • Independent Review: Like any case intelligence tool, you should independently verify citations and analysis before relying on results in client matters.
  • Disclaimer: Caseworth is a supplemental case intelligence tool, not a replacement for legal databases like Westlaw, LexisNexis, or official repositories of law.

National Coverage

Caseworth is rolling out nationally on a disciplined, jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction basis. Our complete 50-state UPL framework reviews every state's controlling statutes, bar opinions, and AI guidance โ€” and assigns each jurisdiction one of four statuses.

โ— Active Now โ€” Live and Delivering Lexstimate Reports
FloridaTexasIllinoisGeorgiaNorth Carolina

Active states have full Lexstimate intelligence across personal injury, family law, employment, landlord-tenant, consumer debt, and more. Reports are generated instantly.

โ— Expanding Soon โ€” Active Pipeline
OhioPennsylvaniaVirginiaArizonaWashingtonColoradoMichigan

Caseworth is in active jurisdictional review for these states, with launch planned on a rolling basis as compliance review for each state completes.

โš  Monitor โ€” Counsel Review Recommended Before Launch
MissouriNew JerseyTennesseeDistrict of Columbia

These jurisdictions warrant ongoing monitoring due to specific factors: Missouri (broadly drawn UPL statute and 2011 LegalZoom precedent โ€” Caseworth's non-document-preparation model distinguishes the case but local counsel review is recommended), New Jersey (criminal UPL provisions including the "derives a benefit" element), Tennessee (prior legislative activity around legal software restrictions), and D.C. (federal jurisdiction characteristics and sophisticated bar environment).

โœ• Excluded โ€” Evaluated Separately Pending Dedicated Counsel Review
CaliforniaNew York

California has the broadest UPL statute nationally (Bus. & Prof. Code ยงยง 6125โ€“6126), the largest UPL enforcement budget, and the Birbrower standard's extension to out-of-state advice on California law โ€” all requiring a dedicated California-counsel evaluation before launch.

New York has the most complex UPL statutory framework in the country (multiple Judiciary Law sections, with UPL classified as a felony), and the intersection with AI-powered legal information platforms is unadjudicated. Excluded from active rollout pending separate New York counsel evaluation.

For users in restricted jurisdictions: Lex declines to answer state-specific legal questions for California, New York, Missouri, New Jersey, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia. Users in these states are routed to licensed attorneys via state bar lawyer referral services.

The full audit, including the controlling UPL statute and Caseworth compliance status for every U.S. state, is published as a public white paper:
