The Controlling Distinction
Every U.S. jurisdiction recognizes a foundational line: legal information is general, factual, and educational — it explains what the law says. Legal advice applies the law to a specific person's unique facts to render an opinion about what they should do. Only licensed attorneys may provide legal advice.
Caseworth is built around that distinction. Every output the platform produces is legal information — not legal advice — and that line is the architectural foundation of the product, not a disclaimer appended after the fact. The Four-Pillar Compliance Architecture
Every consumer output Caseworth produces is governed by four structural rules. These are not disclaimers — they are the architectural pillars that determine what the platform says and how it says it.
Plain-Language Legal Education
We explain what the law says, how courts have interpreted relevant statutes, and what elements specific claims require. Framing is always factual: "In Florida, a negligence claim requires four elements" — never "you have a strong negligence claim."
Market Benchmark, Not Valuation
The Lexstimate benchmark is framed exclusively as a market range drawn from comparable case outcomes: "Cases with similar characteristics have ranged from X to Y." The platform never states "your case is worth X" — that would constitute a legal opinion.
Procedural Information, Not Direction
We describe how courts work and what procedures exist: "Courts require..." and "Florida Rules of Civil Procedure provide..." — never "you should file by this date" or "you should take this step." The procedural roadmap is descriptive, not directive.
Legal Advice or Opinions
Caseworth never tells a user what they should do, whether their case is strong or weak, what outcome to expect, or what strategy to pursue. When a situation calls for legal advice, the platform routes to the Attorney Bridge — connecting the consumer to a licensed attorney, not attempting to replace one.
Structural Disclaimers
Every Caseworth report and interactive output includes the following disclosure:

Information for Licensed Attorneys
If you are a verified, licensed attorney, the following applies:
- Verification Required: Professional-tier access requires verification of your active bar membership. We verify bar information through official state bar databases.
- Professional Standards: You remain bound by your state's Rules of Professional Conduct. Caseworth is a case intelligence tool; your use must comply with ethics rules applicable to attorneys.
- Privilege & Confidentiality: Do not include confidential client information in queries. Caseworth's systems may not maintain attorney-client privilege.
- Independent Review: Like any case intelligence tool, you should independently verify citations and analysis before relying on results in client matters.
- Disclaimer: Caseworth is a supplemental case intelligence tool, not a replacement for legal databases like Westlaw, LexisNexis, or official repositories of law.
National Coverage
Caseworth is rolling out nationally on a disciplined, jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction basis. Our complete 50-state UPL framework reviews every state's controlling statutes, bar opinions, and AI guidance — and assigns each jurisdiction one of four statuses.
Active states have full Lexstimate intelligence across personal injury, family law, employment, landlord-tenant, consumer debt, and more. Reports are generated instantly.
Caseworth is in active jurisdictional review for these states, with launch planned on a rolling basis as compliance review for each state completes.
These jurisdictions warrant ongoing monitoring due to specific factors: Missouri (broadly drawn UPL statute and 2011 LegalZoom precedent — Caseworth's non-document-preparation model distinguishes the case but local counsel review is recommended), New Jersey (criminal UPL provisions including the "derives a benefit" element), Tennessee (prior legislative activity around legal software restrictions), and D.C. (federal jurisdiction characteristics and sophisticated bar environment).
California has the broadest UPL statute nationally (Bus. & Prof. Code §§ 6125–6126), the largest UPL enforcement budget, and the Birbrower standard's extension to out-of-state advice on California law — all requiring a dedicated California-counsel evaluation before launch.
New York has the most complex UPL statutory framework in the country (multiple Judiciary Law sections, with UPL classified as a felony), and the intersection with AI-powered legal information platforms is unadjudicated. Excluded from active rollout pending separate New York counsel evaluation.
For users in restricted jurisdictions: Lex declines to answer state-specific legal questions for California, New York, Missouri, New Jersey, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia. Users in these states are routed to licensed attorneys via state bar lawyer referral services.
