How to ask Lex a question

Step 1 — Pick Ask Lex

In the composer at /analysis, open the mode dropdown and choose Ask Lex. It's the default mode for most consumers and the cheapest way to get a specific answer.

Step 2 — Phrase a specific question

Ask Lex answers best when your question is specific and includes context that matters legally — your state, the type of matter, and relevant dates. Compare:

• Weak: "Do I have a case?"
• Better: "I slipped on a wet floor at a grocery store in Ohio two weeks ago and hurt my wrist — how long do I have to file a claim?"

A weak, open-ended question forces Lex to guess at context; a specific one gets you a specific, usable answer.

Step 3 — Submit and read the answer

Submit your question. Lex answers in plain English, and will point out when something depends on facts it doesn't have — that's a cue to ask a tighter follow-up, not a dead end.

Step 4 — Ask follow-ups

You can keep asking follow-up questions in the same thread. Each submission — the first question and every follow-up — costs 500 credits. If your question grows into something that needs a full report (a value range, comparable matters, a deadline calendar), switch to Analyze case or Build a case instead.
