How to run an analysis, step by step

Step 1 — Open the composer and pick a mode

Go to /analysis. In the composer toolbar, open the mode dropdown and choose Analyze case (for the full Lexstimate report) or Demand letter (to draft a letter). You can see each mode's credit cost right in the dropdown before you commit to it.

Step 2 — Describe your situation

Write what happened in your own words. The more specific you are, the more useful the output — a good description usually includes:

• Who was involved (you, the other party, witnesses)
• When it happened (a date, or at least a rough timeframe)
• Where it happened (city and state — jurisdiction drives the law that applies)
• What happened, in order
• Any injuries, losses, or damages
• Anything you've already done (filed a report, seen a doctor, gotten a letter)

Example: "I was rear-ended on I-4 in Orlando, Florida on June 3. The other driver was cited. I went to urgent care two days later for neck and back pain and I'm still in physical therapy. I have the police report and photos of both cars."

Step 3 — Submit

Submit your description. Caseworth may ask a short follow-up question or two if something important is missing — like your state, or the date something happened — before it can produce a reliable report. Answer those in the chat and it will continue.

Step 4 — What happens while it runs

You'll see Caseworth working — retrieving the statutes and comparable matters relevant to your jurisdiction, checking citations, and assembling the report. This typically takes anywhere from several seconds to a couple of minutes depending on the mode and how much research it's doing.

Step 5 — Read your output

The output appears in the panel next to (or below, on mobile) your conversation. For Analyze case, that's your Lexstimate report — see "Reading and exporting your report" for how each part is organized. For Demand letter, that's a drafted letter you should review with an attorney before sending anywhere.
